The Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICArb) invites academics, legal practitioners, arbitrators, mediators, policymakers, researchers, and dispute resolution professionals to submit papers for its journal. Call for Papers aims to foster thought leadership, encourage scholarly dialogue, and advance the growth of effective dispute resolution practices in Nigeria and across Africa.

The Interface Between Arbitration and Public GovernanceSubmissions may explore the increasingly complex relationship between arbitration and state interests, including the roles of public policy and regulatory oversight, and the extent to which certain disputes remain amenable to private resolution mechanisms.

Effectiveness of Enforcement Mechanisms in PracticeContributors are encouraged to examine the realities surrounding the post-award phase of arbitration, with particular attention to the practical, procedural, and structural challenges that arise in the recognition, enforcement, and satisfaction of arbitral awards.

Ethical Standards and Professional Accountability in Arbitral PracticeThis area invites critical reflection on issues of ethics, impartiality, and professional responsibility within the arbitration ecosystem, including the conduct of arbitrators, counsel, and other stakeholders.

Accessibility, Efficiency, and the Cost of Dispute ResolutionThe Journal welcomes discussions on whether arbitration and ADR continue to meet their foundational objectives of efficiency and accessibility, especially in light of rising costs, procedural complexities, and the experiences of diverse categories of users.

Sectoral and Industry-Specific Approaches to Dispute ResolutionSubmissions may consider how dispute resolution mechanisms are evolving within specific industries, and the extent to which tailored approaches are required to address the unique characteristics and demands of such sectors.

The Development and Positioning of African Arbitration in the Global ContextThis area seeks contributions that reflect on the growth, challenges, and future trajectory of arbitration in Africa, including questions of regional collaboration, institutional development, and the continent’s role in shaping global dispute- resolution norms.

Transparency, Confidentiality, and Public Interest Considerations in ArbitrationContributors may also explore the balance between confidentiality and transparency, particularly in disputes that implicate public resources, governance, or broader societal interests.

Submission Requirements

Word count2,500 – 10,000 words
File formatsPDF, DOCX
  • Articles must be well-researched, original as much as possible and deal with contemporary issues in Arbitration and other forms of ADRs.
  • Article should be 2,500 - 10,000 words long, although submission may be considered if they are below or above this word length.
  • Contributors are to provide a short abstract of the paper of not more than 300 words.
  • Articles will be peer-reviewed for accuracy and relevance.
  • Contributors are implored to thoroughly proof-read their article before submission.
